Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): Around 163 people tested positive for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) in Nagaland out of 7,043 clients under the Nagaland State Aids Control Society (NSACS) in April, 2022.
According to data provided on the Chief Minister’s dashboard, Dimapur district recorded highest number of HIV positive cases with 81 out of 1,350 clients, followed by Tuensang with 31 positive cases out of 838 clients.
Kohima reported 23 HIV positive cases out of 1,004 clients, while Phek district reported 10 out of 393 clients tested.
Mokokchung reported six cases out of 852 clients; Kiphire reported five out of 428; two were diagnosed HIV positive out of 668 clients tested in Mon; while Wokha and Peren reported two positive cases each out of 572 and 320 clients respectively.
Zunheboto district reported only one HIV positive case out of 486 clients tested under NSACS, while Longleng district reported zero out of 132 clients tested.
According to HIV sentinel surveillance (HSS), 2020, among the states/UTs, Mizoram had the highest estimated adult HIV prevalence with 2.37%, followed by Nagaland (1.44%) and Manipur (1.15%).
The total number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in India was estimated at 23.19 lakh (18.33 lakh–29.78 lakh) in 2020, out of which children (<15 years) accounted for 3.5%, and 44.3% of total infections were among females.
