DIMAPUR — The Western Chakhesang Youth Front (WCYF) and the Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) have jointly issued a 15-day ultimatum to law enforcement agencies to arrest four absconding persons involved in the assault of Wekupe Therie, warning that they would take their own course of action if the accused are not apprehended within the stipulated time.
According to reports, Therie was physically assaulted by five individuals on May 2 at Naga United village, Chümoukedima district, between 8.30 pm and 9 pm. The incident occurred when he was coming out of a garage after repairing his car. The altercation reportedly began after he accidentally brushed against the rear-view mirror of a stationary vehicle.
Reportedly, the victim was attacked when he approached the group to settle the matter without leaving the scene. The assailants allegedly damaged the windshields of his vehicle using empty bottles and physically assaulted him, resulting in serious injuries.
Therie was initially admitted to the District Hospital in Dimapur and was later discharged. He is currently recuperating at home and is reported to have sustained internal injuries.

In connection with the incident, the WCYF and the WNYF have filed a case at Diphupar Police Station. Police have arrested one person, identified as Inato Chishi from Niuland village, who is currently in custody. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining four accused.
The organisations have also called upon Naga civil society organisations to condemn the incident. They further urged that bail should not be granted to the accused, stating that such acts have no place in a civilised society.
Meanwhile, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has condemned the incident, terming it a cowardly act of violence and an unacceptable attempt to take the law into one’s own hands. It asserted that differences, no matter how serious, must be resolved through dialogue and lawful means.
The WSYF urged law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps to apprehend the remaining accused and ensure that justice is delivered without delay. It also extended sympathy to the victim and wished him a speedy recovery.
In a separate statement, the Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) condemned the assault and vandalism targeting its president, stating that such acts undermine social harmony and instil fear in society.
It urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are held fully accountable under the law.
