KOHIMA — Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kohima, Dr. N Leamnyei Konyak, inaugurated the new building of the Nagabazar Sub-Centre in Kohima on Wednesday.
The new facility was constructed under the health grants of the 15th Finance Commission's 2021-2022 allocation.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Dr. Leamnyei described the inauguration of the newly upgraded centre as a renewed pledge of care and a symbol of hope for accessible and affordable healthcare.
He expressed hope that the new centre will serve as a model for universal health coverage.

The centre was established in 1987 and currently has a team of eight healthcare workers, comprising two Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), a dresser, a vaccinator, and four medical attendants.
The CMO urged the staff to serve the people with the utmost dedication, empathy, and honesty. He informed that the centre is designed to provide comprehensive preventive and promotive healthcare right at the doorstep, offering twelve essential packages.
The services include pregnancy care and childbirth; neonatal, infant, childhood, and adolescent health; family planning and reproductive services; management of communicable and non-communicable diseases; care for common ophthalmic, ENT, and oral health needs; elderly, palliative, and mental health services; and emergency medical services, including trauma and burns.
The centre is also equipped with 14 essential diagnostic services. Furthermore, under the Government of India's "Free Drug Service", 106 essential medicines will be available completely free of cost, Dr. Leamnyei informed.
Stating that healthcare is a fundamental right enshrined under Article 21, he said, "the department is deeply committed to providing the best possible service to the community." He further called upon the community to work together in building a healthier and stronger society.
A keynote address was delivered by the councillor of Ward 4 (Nagabazar) under the Kohima Municipal Council, Zeneivonuo Nakhro.
She expressed satisfaction that the Nagabazar sub-centre brings essential health services directly to the heart of the community, which can lead to enhanced and improved healthcare systems for the colony. She urged the public to protect, utilise, and support the centre.
