Naga YouTubers raise fund for those affected by lockdown

In a unique initiative and a first of its kind in Nagaland, Mhaleu Metha and his partner, popularly known as YimkhongTV, in collaboration with some YouTubers from Nagaland started an online fundraiser under the tagline #TogetherForNagaland to reach out to the poorest of the poor and provide basic necessities for people affected by the lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic.

On May 30, YimkhongTV held a live stream which was participated by various local Nagaland based YouTubers to raise funds for the good cause. The 11 hours live stream was able to raise more than INR 7 lakh and an additional revenue of INR 1.2 lakh was generated from the Youtube channel itself.

This initiative started without any partnership with the government or non-governmental organisations and is not working for the interest or benefit of any party/profit and non-profit organisation, it was informed.

Their objective is to provide relief assistance for people who are currently affected by the lockdown, especially the daily wage earners, people recognised under below poverty line, stranded persons and the underprivileged.

They informed that the assistance will be in the form of essentials like rations, sanitary items and some food items, which will be carried out by following strict SOP as provided by the government. They informed that they had started distributing the essential items from June 11.They added that their target is to distribute the packages to all the villages in and around Dimapur, followed by Kohima and other districts.

According to their report, they have prepared more than 5000 packages to be distributed in and around the villages/blocks/communities/khels in Dimapur and added that the essential packages will be handed over to the chairman of the village/blocks/communities/khels where they will be responsible to select the eligible people within their jurisdiction.
