Naga wrestlers win 8 medals in traditional wrestling

[caption id="attachment_284107" align="aligncenter" width="565"] Bongtang Phom seen here on the podium along with the first and second runner-up on Thursday.[/caption] Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): Naga wrestlers won eight medals -- four gold, three silver and one bronze -- on the first day of the 8th National Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Championship 2019 at LB Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, Telengana. Organised by the All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF), the championship started on November 21 and will conclude today, November 24. An update received here on Saturday informed that four wrestlers -- Bongtang Phom, Tsuknungakum Jamir, Mhasheve Resuh and Kuchohu Curhah -- bagged gold in different categories in mas-wrestling. Venuzo Dawhuo, Rokovuotuo Khawakhrie and Vebo Nienu also bagged silver in different categories in mas-wrestling while Vikedutuo Khawakhrie won bronze. A total of 17 wrestlers from the state along with three officials of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) are currently at the meet. Teenager wins 2 gold medals At the same championship event, Kahveinai Josephine Hanah, daughter of H Sahiinii and Sunita from Purul village, a Poumai Naga village belonging to Senapati district, Manipur, won gold medals in belt wrestling and mas-wrestling. The 14-year-old girl competed in Under-17 Girls +60/-65 category.
