Dimapur, Oct. 17 (EMN): The Naga Students' Union (NSU), Mizoram, observed its 24th fresher’s meet-cum-cultural day on October 15 at Art and Cultural auditorium, Berawtlang, Mizoram, on the theme ‘Towards identity and empowerment.’
NSUM, in an update, informed that vice chairman of Human Resource Development Board, government of Mizoram, Thangmawai, was the special guest of the event. It stated that the special guest shared how Nagaland and Mizoram, as neighbouring states, share close-knitted and good relationship with each other.
Among many similarities that the two tribal states share with each other, Thangmawai expounded the ways of Christianity that the state has followed from Nagaland apart from the struggle for independence that Nagas have endeared thus far. He encouraged the students to know their priorities and purpose that is to do study well.
Thangmawai advised the students to focus on their academics as well as to strive and contribute to the community and nation. He further asked the students to work hard and remain dedicated.
President of NSUM, in his welcome address, stated that a programme like fresher’s day is perfect opportunity to build friendship with new people as well as seniors. He added a student’s life is not only about education but also about building one's personality, attitude, character and how to become a versatile person.
Forty nine fresh students were welcomed during the programme. Atyule Tep from Optometry department, RIPANS, and Zubenthung M Kikon from department of Master in Library and Information Science, Mizoram University, were declared Miss and Mr Freshers 2022 respectively.
More than 250 students attended the programme, it stated.
