The 31st Naga Students’ Federation general conference will be hosted in Tseminyu from August 27 to 30 with guests from across the region.

Naga Students’ Federation 31st general conference from August 27 to 30

KOHIMA/DIMAPUR — The 31st Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) general conference is scheduled to be held from August 27 to the 30th, hosted by the Rengma Students’ Union at Tseminyu town, on the theme "Resilience in transition".


This was informed by the organising committee through a press conference addressed by Medovi Rhi, president; K Elu Ndang, convener and central organising committee; Christopher Ltu, co-convener of the organising committee; Jungithung Yanthan, member of the organising committee; and Krelo, convener of the programme committee, on Wednesday at their office in Kohima.


They said that many guests and units from the neighbouring country Myanmar, as well as from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur, will be participating in the event.


They cited that the programme had been delayed due to some technical problems but has now been finalised and will be divided into five sessions.


The first day will be the introductory session; the second day will be the inaugural programme, followed by panel discussions hosted by R Lungleng in the evening.

On the third day, there will be the general election of NSF for the tenure 2025–2027. The guests for various sessions during the conference include Supongmeren, MP of Lok Sabha; Metsubo Jamir, minister of Rural Development and the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD); Komu Sha, MLA from Manipur; Abu Metha, advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland; S Toiho Yeptho, deputy speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly; Laisam Simai, MLA from Arunachal Pradesh; and Jwenga Seb, MLA from the Tseminyu constituency.


Leaders of various civil society organisations such as the Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights, Naga Mothers’ Association, and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, as well as representatives from Myanmar, will deliver messages.


They expressed that during the last two tenures, a proper conference could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They clarified that August 27 will be the day of arrival and August 30 the day of departure.


They also invited all students to be a part of the panel discussion on August 28 at 4 pm.


Model code of conduct comes into effect


Meanwhile, in a notification, the NSF stated that the general election to the executive council and assembly executives of the federation shall be conducted on August 29 at 2 pm at the conference hall, Tseminyu town. It noted that the process of counting votes and declaring results shall be completed on the same day.


The notification stated that the election shall be held strictly for the posts as notified by the election commission for the tenure 2025–2027. To ensure the conduct of a free, fair and transparent election, the model code of conduct (MCC) comes into immediate effect and shall be binding on all intending candidates and members of the federating units.

No candidate shall be a registered member of any political party. Campaigning or canvassing by any political party in favour of a candidate is strictly prohibited. Use of derogatory, defamatory or disparaging words, remarks or speeches against other candidates shall constitute a serious offence.


Circulation of concocted stories, unverified information or distortion of events against other candidates shall also constitute a serious offence. Use of loudspeakers or similar devices for campaign purposes is strictly prohibited.


The use of social media platforms for maligning, criticising, exposing private affairs or sharing objectionable images or videos of other candidates is strictly prohibited. Any attempt to influence voters by means of money, position, power or other inducements shall constitute a serious offence.


Candidates shall be held responsible to ensure that their supporters do not obstruct or disrupt meetings or campaigns organised by other candidates.


Organising of public meetings by candidates during the conference is strictly prohibited. Electioneering or campaign activities during conference hours or sessions are strictly prohibited.


Election processions or demonstrations of any kind are strictly prohibited. Soliciting votes or favours by offering alcohol, intoxicants or any other immoral inducement shall constitute a serious offence. Intimidation, threats or coercion of any form shall amount to a violation of the MCC.


It was cautioned that any violation of the provisions of the MCC shall invite disciplinary action and/or such penal measures as may be deemed appropriate by the election commission.
