Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K. Therie has said NPCC continues to uphold the 10-point modalities signed in 1978 with the then AICC President Indira Gandhi in the presence of. A.R. Antulay, General Secretary, AICC. Addressing a public gathering as part of ongoing NPCC mass contact tour programme at Tuensang, Tobu and Mopong towns, Therie said, “The 10-point modalities have given NPCC a unique place in the Indian National Congress.
Political solution has been the top agenda for Congress since its inception. We stand by the resolution adopted in 1972 at Pfütsero NNO Convention, the forerunner of NPCC that the party will endeavour to solve the Naga Political problem through peaceful and Constitutional means and to serve as a bridge between Naga Undergrounds and the GoI. We have even gone beyond our mandate by offering talks without pre-conditions and today because of that, we have Ceasefire Agreements and negotiations. We are pained by the delay in finding an amicable solution. Given opportunity to rule, we will play an effective mediatory role to secure political and economic solutions”.
Therie said that the 60 MLAs are like the ‘6 Blind Men’ trying to analyse what the elephant looks like and could only request Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Interlocutor to resolve the Naga political problem as soon as possible, without any vision, recommendations or suggestions.
Therie said, “I disagreed with the Bedrock of Naga Society for which I was asked to resign and expelled from the Congress”. He thanked the public for voting his party to power back in 2003 and said that the party manifesto assured to secure a settlement to the Indo-Naga political problem if voted to power but Rio decided to merely facilitate and support.
Adding that the crisis within the Congress party is now over, he said that ‘today we have coordination between the NPCC and DCCs.’ He added that after many consultations, the NPCC has come out with the Road Map for ‘Change’.
Therie said, “Our society lives peacefully and no questions about which religion one belongs to were raised until the Modi government came to power. “We have no problem with the Hindu religion but wonder why BJP is attacking our religion” he said. After the BJP Government came to power, they have declared Christmas day as Good Governance Day and Good Friday as Judges’ Conference day. “Life has changed through ‘Ghar Wapasi’ and ‘beef ban’ under the present BJP led NDA government” he added.
The NPCC president said that Modi has travelled to more the 30 Christian and Muslim countries after becoming Prime Minister begging them to produce ‘Made in India’ products, while his RSS led BJP Government continues to discriminate Christians and Muslims back home.
He said, no Christian or Muslim nation will invest in India as long as BJP continues to divide the nation on religious lines. “How can Christians vote for BJP in the next election? The only reason to vote for them is for their money” he said.
Therie also flayed the 60 MLAs for not reacting to the sufferings of our Christian brothers so far. He said, Nagaland State government has no works plan for the public to use a single spade to earn their livelihood.
“We have so many crises before us but no MLAs have any suggestions or solutions to solve the problems” he rued. Today job card holders are not getting anything while the non job card holders have become the real beneficiaries.
Therie also said that security forces are deployed everywhere like a war zone but questioned whether we are fighting with our enemies or with our own brothers and sisters. Saying that peace cannot be gifted, sanctioned or purchased, he urged the people to let peace come from within their hearts. He said, the wish of the public should be the wish and will of the Government.
Therie said, Nagas are no lesser than anyone and that each vote being precious, it is that vote which will decide what the voter wants and appealed to each voter to elect good leaders. “If you want change, only a party with a political system, ideologies, principles and polices can deliver it. If voted to power, we assure you that we will fulfil the Road Map”, he concluded.
Others who addressed the public meetings included Athang Chongloi Secy., NPCC, Dokiu Kecham Gen. Secy. NPCC, I. Alemla Chang Secy. NPCC, N. Mosha Chang President DCC Tuensang, V. Lasuh Vice President NPCC and L. Chuba Yim Secy. NPCC.
