Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): A 29-year-old Indian Army personnel, Lungambui Abonmei from Ariang Khunkhu Naga village, Kangpokpi district in Manipur, was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) at Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on June 13.
According to Hindustan Times, two other soldiers were also injured late on Saturday night 'after the heavy shelling by Pakistan in Poonch district Shahpur-Kirni sector'.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Poonch, Ramesh Kumar Angral informed that the Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei died in the shelling, and two other sepoys, Lienkhothien Senghon and Tangsoik Kwianiungar were injured.
Angral informed that the injured soldiers have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for further treatment, and all the three soldiers belong to the 10th battalion of Assam Regiment.
Defence spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, said that the Pakistan army 'resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on LoC in Poonch sector on Saturday' and that Abonmei was critically injured, who later succumbed to the injuries.
"Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier and the nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," he added.
Indian and Pakistani troops have been exchanging gunfire and mortar shelling along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir almost every day now, according to the report.
