A book ‘Naga Society: Culture, Education and Emerging Trends’, authored by Dr Benjongkumba, that touches on a number of issues connected to Naga way of life was released at Hotel Saramati here today. The book that runs into 148 pages was published by Heritage Publishing House.
Releasing the book, Prof. BS Chauhan, former pro-Vice Chancellor, SASRD, Nagaland University, dwelt on prospects and challenges before the Naga society. He said, “We must channelise our energy for growth of Nagaland.
Explaining that energy intensive lifestyle is not sustainable, Prof. Chauhan said resources must be used proportionately as per their availability.
With global warming remaining a major issue across the globe, he said the issue must be addressed at the right earnest. He also opined that the present education system in Nagaland has done precious little in so far as arresting the degradation of bio-diversity in the State is concerned.
The book release programme was chaired by Dr Lanusangla while Imtijungla Longchar said the prayer.
Giving a review of the book, Dr. Asangba Tzudir, Editor, Heritage Publishing House, said ‘Naga Society: Culture, Education and Emerging Trends’ captures a myriad of themes – society, culture, education and the emerging trends by delving into pertinent issues that are so much connected with the Naga life – past, present and future.
In a very lucid manner it empirically examines the socio-political and cultural contours and its associated predicaments, and the emerging trends of a society going through a transition phase by way of reviewing through the prism of lived experiences, developmental models and progressive change spreading across 13 papers, he stated.
Dr Tzudir also said the book also take a look at Tribal Land Ownership system among the Nagas by taking the case of the Angamis, Sumis and the Aos which brings to light the identity of the Naga society. It also looks at both the advantage as well as disadvantage of land ownership within the contemporary complexities arising out of such traditional system. The paper needs to be further addressed in the light of the importance of land resources within the underlying reality of traditional land holding within the need for development, he stated.
