Made in Nagaland
Dimapur, May 28 : Paving way for indigenous entrepreneurs to explore businesses beyond creativity and novelty, a common market place for local entrepreneurs from Nagaland and ‘Made in Nagaland’ products has been set up. Dubbed the “Makers’ Market,” the open market business event is at Aiko Greens at the Purana Bazar in Dimapur.
Coming together under one umbrella, local food growers, producers, and chefs and bakers, artists, florists, and designers and photographers and service providers were there with their best smile. They incorporated resourcefulness only indigenous acumen can boast of and made best use of the one-day ‘Makers’ Market’.
The event was a joint initiative of Zatara Pvt. Ltd, a Dimapur-based marketing company and NEbuzz.com, an online content portal from the DesignStash Team. They conceptualized Makers’ Market with the idea to promote local and small business enterprises in the region by creating accessible public platform as an interface with customers.
“In the current market conditions, it has become increasingly cheaper to buy distantly produced goods, despite the increased costs of packaging, transport, inspection, and associated expenses,” the organizers said in a statement on Saturday. “However, along with lower prices comes the added cost of irreparable repercussions on the environment and impacts on the economic well being of our community.”
The objective of the initiative was to organize and create a ‘marketplace’ by bringing together the best of local resources and entrepreneurs who have a hand in food and hospitality, besides creative enterprises touted by artists, florists, and designers and service providers. That way, a singular platform would provide a complete community shopping experience for customers and consumers.
The team behind this endeavor had this to say about their initiative: “We believe in the power of ‘local’ and that the only way our economy can grow sustainably, is when our local businesses thrive.”
Makers Market is currently seeking partnerships with home-grown companies and organizations that are committed to impacting change for the betterment of the local community. The event will also be a platform to promote various local and community-driven social campaigns such as the ‘Love Local,’ ‘Clean Dimapur’ and ‘Make in Northeast India’ campaigns.
Likewise, the market is envisaged to project itself as a place to foster social, community and family experience buttressed by ‘pleasant choices’ far from the crowded-supermarket-shopping experience.
