With the signing of ‘framework agreement’ on August 3 last year with the Government of India by negotiating party, apparently a peaceful solution is imminent, said State Home Minister, Y Patton.
He urged all Naga ‘brethren’ to forgive and forget past mistakes and misadventures and amicably settle all internal issues, inter-tribal misunderstandings and come forward in unision to support the ongoing Indo-Naga peace settlement ‘so that a day will come when our dreams of self determination will be realized’.
Pointing out the rich diverse cultures, traditions and languages of the Nagas, Patton asserted that Nagas should stand united as brothers and sisters.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 50th Anniversary-cum-Church dedication programme of St. Xavier’s Catholic Church, Zhavame, Phek today, the Home Minister urged upon the public of Zhavame in particular to forgive and forget any past misunderstandings and misdeeds on this historic occasion, stating that peace is a must in every section of society for any kind of development and progress.
Also while noting the severe unemployment problem being faced by the State, Patton said, development of cultural tourism in the State should be opted for self-employment.
He is of the view that heritage tourism can be one sector which the State has potential to promote the eco-tourism, and maintained that younger generation should take the opportunity towards this to solve unemployment problem in the State as well as promote and develop eco-tourism.
Also addressing the gathering, Deo Nukhu, Parliamentary Secretary Higher and Technical Education maintained that as Christian the people of the State should work together and remain united irrespective of denominations.
Earlier in the day, Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima dedicated the new Church building at Zhavame and also unveiled the jubilee monolith, while Elias T Lotha, President, Catholic Association of Nagaland extended the jubilee greetings.
The three-day golden jubilee programme with the theme ‘Be filled with the fullness of God’ (Ephesians 3:19) concluded today.
