DIMAPUR — Leaders of Naga political groups have jointly appealed to NSCN groups operating in eastern Nagaland to desist from further armed clashes and bring an end to fratricidal violence among the Nagas.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the leaders said the Nagas have fully experienced the futility of violence and called for sincere and collective efforts to move away from what they described as a dark chapter of fratricidal bloodshed that has weakened the Naga national struggle. The greatest challenge facing the Nagas today lies not only in external forces but in deep internal divisions, it said.
Stating that attempts by Naga groups to assert supremacy over one another have come at a heavy cost in terms of lives, bloodshed and resources, the statement warned that the same cycle would continue unless humility and restraint are exercised.
“We must all be reminded and reassured that no fruits shall be harvested if we go by the same trend of infighting amongst the Nagas,” it added.

Referring to the ongoing armed clashes between the NSCN-K (Angmai Mulatonu) and NSCN-K (Yung Aung) groups in eastern Nagaland, the leaders said such incidents revive painful memories of the past and further erode unity. The statement called for forgiveness, acceptance and empathy, stating that unity among the Nagas was essential to protect their history, culture and identity.
It said that despite differences in opinion, collective effort and unity remain the only path forward, and urged Naga groups to prioritise shared identity and common destiny over internal rivalries.
The appeal was issued by N Kitovi Zhimomi, working convenor, Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPG); Rev. Puni Mao and Kraibo Chawang, members of Collective Leadership, NSCN (IM); Isak Sumi, working convenor, WC, NNPG; Alezo Venuh, co-convenor, WC, NNPG; and P Tikhak Naga, working convenor, WC, NNPG.
