Kohima, March 22 (EMN): MLA Dr. Chotisüh Sazo on Tuesday said it is high time that Naga people are freed from ‘political tangle’ while the declaration of the whole of Nagaland as disturbed area under Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act should be lifted in order to move forward on the road to peace, development and prosperity.
He stated this while participating in the discussion on “Naga political issue” on day-three of the ongoing Eleventh session of the 13th NLA.
During his address, he pointed out that many prime ministers had ‘come and gone’ but they shelved the problem (Naga political issue) and several ceasefires and agreements were signed, but none of them has been able to bring permanent peace into Nagaland.
“Fortunately, the Narendra Modi government entrusted RN Ravi to solve 100 years of Naga political issue. He was consistently handling the issue, patiently with IM group and NPGs for the last few years, wrestling with problems. The Framework of Agreement between GoI and NSCN (IM) and the Preamble of Agreement between GoI and seven NNPG were signed. It is already seven and five years respectively. The peace talk was said to be concluded on Oct. 31, 2019.”
Despite all those events, ‘the ray of hope of a solution is unknown when RN Ravi was also transferred, and a new Interlocutor AK Mishra was appointed’.
Sazo maintained that amidst the desires of the people, declaring the entire state of Nagaland as disturbed area under AFSPA vitiate the peaceful atmosphere necessary for a peaceful resolution to the Naga problem.
He stated that AFSPA should be lifted for the sake of confidence building amongst the Naga people and to facilitate inclusive, honorable and acceptable solution to the Naga political problem.
“I believe God is on time and Naga people will see the light according to his purpose. Therefore, we support the peace talk”, he added.
