KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 21
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today organized an exclusive conclave with all its senior members who have served the Federation in different capacities from the year 1947 till 2015.
The Federation’s former leaders, from as early as 1970 to the incumbent executives, had a rare sitting at the Hotel de Oriental Grand here and deliberated on different agendas, including the recent developments in the Naga political issue.
Following the day-long conclave, a set of draft recommendations were brought out by the house. On the “framework agreement” signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India on August 3 last, all the members participated with positive mindset in the view that the Naga political issue is a “very complicated issue”. Upholding the principle stand of Naga political solution for an “honourable and acceptable” solution, the house has recommended that sovereignty and integrity are the core issues; Every responsible citizen should rise up considering it as a common issue for amicable solution; Nagas should not confuse themselves with “what is India and what is Naga”; To be realistic, and if the current “framework agreement” fails to include sovereignty and integration, then it is not political rather it shall be considered as an economic solution; The federation appreciates and also appealed the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to carry forward the dreams and aspirations of the common people in bringing all the ‘Naga political groups’ under one umbrella; and to appeal to all the ‘Naga political groups’ to come together for a common goal in the process of the framework agreement/ongoing talks to avoid mistakes.
The other agendas discussed included the age old NSF office building for which the house has recommended for construction of a new office building. Senior members also raised concern on the issue of Indigenous Certificate to non-indigenous inhabitants, and to this, the house resolved to apprise the state government to direct the concerned department/issuing authority that no indigenous certificate should be issued to any non-indigenous inhabitants. For any such case, the issuing officer/authority should be held solely responsible, they stated.
Several other agendas were also highlighted and issues such as rampant backdoor appointments, influx of illegal immigrants, the state election system, and the groundwork for NSF Trust Fund were endorsed to the present E ‘executive council ‘for further decision and course of action.
The meeting was moderated by the current NSF president, Subenthung Kithan. Some of the prominent senior-most leaders of the federation in the early 1970s who attended the conclave included MV Chakhesang, Zaku Tsukru, Lhouvitsu and L Salouni Pao among others.
