rally at Avakhung ITC.
- DIMAPUR — The Naga People's Front (NPF)
central team reached Shilloi Lake ahead of a major public protest rally at
Avakhung ITC in Phek, led by MLA and secretary general of NPF Achumbemo Kikon.
- A press release from the party stated that, despite
encountering minor mudslides along the route due to recent rains, the team
cleared the way and there were no major disruptions.
- The public protest rally is scheduled for April 29 and is
jointly organised by the Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) and the NPF
to voice strong opposition against the proposed scrapping of the Free Movement
Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar
border.
- It was stated that preparations at Avakhung ITC are in full
swing, with large numbers of people and public leaders expected to gather for
the protest. The rally will begin in the morning, and several prominent leaders
and community representatives will deliver speeches.
- The highlight of the event will be a keynote speech by
Achumbemo, who is expected to strongly advocate for the protection of
traditional land rights and oppose any moves undermining indigenous border
communities.
