DIMAPUR — The Working Committee of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has resolved to extend support to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate, Dr. Chumben Murry for the lone Nagaland state parliamentary constituency in the ensuing Lok Sabha election 2024.
This resolution was adopted during the NPF working committee’s meeting held at the party’s central office in Kohima on Monday, informed a press release issued by the party’s Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon.
The decision to support the NDPP candidate is to uphold the spirit of opposition-less government, which is now at the helms of affairs in the state, with an objective to play the role of an active facilitator to bring about an early honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue, it said.
The NPF further informed that four applicants, including the sitting MP, are seeking the party ticket for the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. In this regard, it said the party’s central office has constituted a search committee to identify the right candidate but its report and recommendation is still awaited.
So, the working committee resolved to meet again on March 18 at the NPF central office to “discuss and decide on the matter,” it added.
It may be mentioned that state units of several political parties including the National People’s Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal United and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) have extended support to Dr. Chumben Murry since the NDPP declared the two-time MLA as the consensus candidate of People Democratic Alliance (NDPP-BJP) for the state’s lone parliamentary seat in the upcoming general elections.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress had announced S Supongmeren Jamir, the incumbent president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, as its candidate for the crucial elections.
