Dimapur, Nov. 30 (EMN): Naga organic pavilion at Hortiscape, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, was officially inaugurated by N Hushili Sema, agriculture production commissioner (APC) and principal secretary of Agriculture department on November 28.
Addressing the gathering, APC and principal secretary said the concept of creating the Naga organic pavilion was a unanimous decision between the departments of Agriculture and Horticulture taken up under RKVY-RAFTAAR, keeping in mind the potential of the state for organic production. She added that the state is encouraging organic farming under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North-East Region (MOVCD-NER) in a big way, an update from the director of Horticulture Dr. R Elithung Lotha stated on Saturday.
She has appreciated the officers of Horticulture department for their efforts, hard work and dedication especially to Eluba Temshi, assistant horticulture officer, under whose supervision works were taken up and completed within the stipulated time-frame. She also encouraged young officers to put in equal amount of dedication and sincerity so that the potential of the agriculture sector could be tapped to its fullest potential.
She further advised the departments to conduct year round activities at the organic pavilion for the benefit of the farming community and to create a quality image of Naga organic suppliers and their products and connect them to high-end markets while also educating the farmers on market dynamics, costing of produces and packaging.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. R Elithung Lotha, director of Horticulture, gave a brief highlight on the creation of the Naga organic pavilion at the Hortiscape, Kisama. He said that a team of officers of both the Agriculture and Horticulture departments led by the APC and principal secretary visited the Hortiscape on September 9.
According to him, the concept of Naga organic pavilion was to provide facilities for showcasing organic produces and items of the state and to provide direct business opportunity to the state’s organic producers with visiting national and international buyers through buyers to buyers and buyers to sellers meets and interactions especially during the Hornbill Festival.
He also lauded all those involved in the creation of the organic pavilion especially to Eluba Temshi, who despite hurdles due to roadblocks and incessant rains managed to successfully oversee the works and ensure its completion within a short time.
Director of Agriculture M Ben Yanthan, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the APC and principal secretary under whose leadership the works were initiated. He also thanked the officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture departments, landowners and all the individuals who were part of the works.
The programme was attended by a host of dignitaries, officials from the departments of Agriculture and Horticulture and other well-wishers.
