Dimapur, Nov. 29 (EMN): Asserting that solution to the Naga political issue is their “topmost priority today”, the leadership of 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland has expressed concern over what they said was “deliberate unwillingness of the negotiators to reconcile in one stand as Naga patriots”.
In a statement issued on Friday, the leaders maintained that any excuse or condition to delay the much-awaited solution is against the interest of the people.
The statement was signed, on behalf of the leaderships of 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, by the respective presidents of Ao Senden, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation, and the vice president of Angami Public Organisation.
They expressed fear that the “deliberate unwillingness” to unite could end up turning the long-awaited solution, which is “at its finality”, into a “mirage”.
“Such a turn of event will be too unfortunate and will never convalesce again no matter how flamboyantly Naga people would deny of our own erroneous doing,” the statement read.
The leaders appealed to the “patriotic leaderships of both the negotiating parties to best see the imperative reasons for their coming together”.
They also appealed to the government of India to work out a mechanism that will bring the entire political process to a logical conclusion, and to deliver peace and harmony to the entire Northeast region without further delay.
“The people of Nagaland are longing for a peaceful and lasting acceptable solution and such pursuit should not be at the cost of creating another bigger problem,” the statement read.
