Naga National Political Groups working committee flays 21 MPs for their missive on Naga issue
Kitovi Zhimomi-led Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) has questioned the wisdom of the 21 Rajya Sabha MPs in sending a missive to Union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, on the Naga peace process
DIMAPUR — The
Kitovi Zhimomi-led Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG)
has questioned the wisdom of the 21 Rajya Sabha MPs in sending a missive to
Union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, on the Naga peace process.
In a press release, the WC-NNPG said it appreciates the
concern of the 21 MPs for voicing out their moral support through their letter
to the Home Minister “for the Naga people anticipating for early solution.”
The WC-NNPG however noted that emphasising the pressing
issue only on the Framework Agreement is a total ignorance of the ground
reality as there are two mutually agreed agreements – 2015 Framework Agreement
between the NSCN (IM) and GoI and 2017 Agreed Position between the WC-NNPG and
GoI.
It said that overlooking the hard-earned agreement called
the ‘Agreed Position’ was ignorance on the part of the 21 MPs.
The WC-NNPG informed the 21 MPs that simply demanding a new
interlocutor without knowing the ground reality is nothing but to delay the
solution, when talks were mutually completed on October 31, 2019 and Nagas are
anticipating for early solution.
The WC-NNPG also reminded the 21MPs that during the 5th
session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on January 17, 2020, the then
Governor of Nagaland had announced that the negotiation between the GoI and
NNPG successfully concluded on October 31, 2019.
And subsequently under the convenorship of P Chidambaram of
Parliamentary Standing Committee, the “Naga Peace Accord” was submitted to the
Rajya Sabha on July 19, 2018, and the same was submitted to the Lok Sabha on
the same date, it stated.
“Wherein, the Government of India reached an understanding
with the NSCN (IM), which agreed for a settlement within Indian federation,
with a special status.
“The Interlocutor informed the committee that this was a
departure from their earlier position of ‘with India, not within India.’
Therefore, the question of new Interlocutor does not arise unless there is any
new agenda to be included in the agreement,” the release stated.
“The signatories of the Agreed Position fervently appeal
before the 21 MPs to carry forward their valuable support in honouring both the
agreements for achieving a peaceful, honourable, acceptable inclusive
solution,” it added.
WC-NNPG reasserts
Kitovi as convenor
Meanwhile, in a separate press communiqué, the Kitovi-led WC-NNPG
said that it is compelled to issue a “definitive clarification to clearly
articulate its position.”
“This communication aims to address the concerns of
individuals who may seek to disrupt the strong bond and relationship that the
Working Committee has diligently preserved over the years. Moving forward, we
remain committed to fostering a constructive and collaborative environment,” it
stated.
The WC-NNPG also “unequivocally” rejected the recent press
release issued by the newly-established Working Committee, that N Kitovi
Zhimomi was removed as the convenor of the Working Committee.
It maintained that “no such agreement or approval has ever
been reached in any meeting.”
“During the meeting, it was observed that in the absence of
N Kitovi Zhimomi, several co-conveners were cautioned about potential legal
action by some members of the Khehoi camp.
“This warning was directed at those who expressed support
for Zhimomi as the convener of the Working Committee. Such actions are
considered unprofessional and unethical, particularly given the
responsibilities associated with leadership within the Khehoi camp,” the
communiqué stated.
It went on to state that the Working Committee firmly
remains outside the internal impeachment processes of leaders in their respective
parties or groups.
“Historically, Isak Sumi, Ato Kilonser of NSCN (K),
successfully navigated impeachment challenges from his party members on two
separate occasions. To uphold the commitment of the Working Committee, he was
allowed to continue his active participation in its proceedings. This same
standard of support is applied to N Kitovi Zhimomi as well.
“The issue of his impeachment is a matter that pertains to
internal organisational dynamics; therefore, his position as convener of the
Working Committee remains unaffected,” the communiqué added.
