Naga Mothers’ Association mourns the demise of peace activist Niketu Iralu, recalling his contributions to peace, reconciliation and the fight against alcoholism and drug addiction in Nagaland.
DIMAPUR — The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has condoled the demise of noted peace activist Niketu Iralu, describing him as “Nagaland’s most respected voice for peace, reconciliation and moral leadership.”
In a condolence message, the NMA said Iralu had been a key partner and supporter of its efforts against alcoholism and drug addiction in Nagaland during the early 1990s. He helped the association connect with the KRIPA Foundation, Mumbai, leading to the opening of the NMA-KRIPA De-addiction Centre in Kohima.
Iralu later served as the first Visiting Director and Counsellor of the NMA-KRIPA Foundation’s Mount Gilead Home at Sechu-Zubza.
The NMA said he worked closely with the association on social transformation and shared its concerns over alcoholism, drug addiction and HIV/AIDS among the younger generation.

It described his contribution as mentor, friend and guide to successive NMA women leaders as one that would remain on record.
For Iralu, the NMA said, peace meant restoring lives and healing families, not merely ending conflict.
In a separate condolence message, the Mao Council (MC) also mourned the passing of Niketu lralu.
“He was a remarkable leader and a social reformer who dedicated his entire life to the cause of peace and reconciliation. His selfless service can never be forgotten," the council stated.
