DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER, 8
In the backdrop of the Naga Hoho decision to skip the ACAUT public discourse on September 12 next, and its accompanying appeal to all its tribal units to follow the same, the ACAUT Nagaland on Tuesday reasoned that the public discourse has been initiated “having sensed the importance and need for Nagas to have frank and open dialogue at this juncture in Naga history.”
In a press release issued today, ACAUT Nagaland regretted the inability of the Naga Hoho to attend its public discourse at the DDSC stadium on September 12 next. It assured that the event “is simply a discourse on the current state of affairs in Nagaland” and that their (Naga Hoho) fears are misplaced and unfounded.
“The ACAUT Nagaland, through this common platform is trying to bring to fore the saner opinions of the intellectuals and prominent individuals which more often than not, are pushed to the periphery and seldom heard.
“It is critical that these voices are heard by all and understood by all stake holders. While applauding and respecting the initiative of the Naga HoHo to hold an international conference, ACAUT Nagaland feels that it is equally important to hold a grass root conference,” it stated.
ACAUT Nagaland noted that it is disconcerting that most Nagas have not reconciled to the idea of sharing opinions and free exchange of ideas which is essentially what the common platform is. “One of the aims of the Common Platform is to encourage honest discussion on democratization of the whole nation building process for which serious introspection is called for.
“It is absolutely important that any citizen’s rights to make informed decisions are not impinged as existed in an independent, democratic and republican Naga village system. An individual should not lose his democratic space to the selective decisions of a few at the cost of the vast but crucial uniformed majority.”
As such, it stated, as far as the Naga issue is concerned – all Nagas being stake holders – the issue belongs to public domain and that every citizen conscious about their rights are requested to attend the public discourse.
NCD not to participate in ‘Common Platform’
Naga Council 2nd councilor general meeting was held on September 8 at Naga Council Unity Hall and deliberated with regards to the ACAUT’s ‘common platform’ under the theme ‘Naga opinion on peaceful settlement.’ In this connection the Naga Council Dimapur has decided not to participate in the programme organized by ACAUT on September 12.
It then unanimously welcome the peace accord signed between NSCN(IM) and Government of India on August 3, that amicable permanent settlement must be base consultation, including all tribal hohos must be consulted before final settlement of decades old Indo-Naga political solution.
The council appreciated and acknowledged the Chief Minister of Nagaland for urging the government of India to include Dimapur in smart cities project.
