- DIMAPUR — The Naga Hoho has once again called
for unity and introspection amidst the delay in resolving the Indo-Naga
political issue, “due to various reasons best known to the negotiating
parties.”
- In a statement issued on Wednesday, the hoho expressed
concern over the fragmented opinions, “with state-centric and regional
interests,” that are hindering progress in the Indo-Naga political
negotiations.
- The Naga Hoho highlighted its persistent efforts over the
years to foster unity and reconciliation among various Naga organisations and
to facilitate the peace process.
- While acknowledging the contributions of successive
leaderships in strengthening the dialogue, the statement lamented the prolonged
delays, attributing them to reasons “best known to the negotiating parties.”
- “We have no reason to blame others but ourselves,” it
stated, urging the Naga people to take responsibility for what it described as
the destruction of the fabric of the Indo-Naga political talks. “It is in the
interest of the adversaries that we have defeated ourselves and become enemies
of our own selves.”
- The Naga Hoho also addressed the issue of tribal
dissociation from the organisation, particularly from Nagaland. While
acknowledging these departures, the Hoho maintained that its legitimacy and
existence remain intact due to representation from Manipur, Assam, and
Arunachal Pradesh, as well as continued support from within Nagaland.
- The statement further underscored the organisation's
commitment to fostering reconciliation among Naga political groups, aiming to
end fratricidal killings and resolve the Indo-Naga political issue through
joint efforts.
- “Furthermore, Naga Hoho, the apex body of civil
organisations, has urged all the tribe leaders from the Nagas of Nagaland to
join the Naga Hoho and seek to address the Naga political problem based on
‘contemporary realities,’ and also to work selflessly towards bringing about
peace and unity among the Nagas, irrespective of the Naga-inhabited areas,” it
stated, asserting that it is time for Nagas to unite and work for a common
goal.
