Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): Expressing profound sadness over the demise of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, the Naga Hoho described the deceased as a political icon who took the Indian society to a greater height.
The Naga Hoho said Vajpayee was an ardent politician, a poet and a real orator with whom India irrespective of political affiliation, felt in love.
Pointing out that Vajpayee was the first prime minister of India who acknowledged the unique history and situation of the Nagas in 2002, the Naga Hoho said that the Nagas have lost a man who felt deeply for the Naga cause.
Saying that the Naga people had great hope to resolve the Indo-Naga problem during his time as prime minister, the Hoho lamented that Vajpayee’s stint as the prime minister ended before the Naga problem could be resolved.
While recalling his determination to traverse the 72 km distance from Dimapur to Kohima and also the commitment to grant the four lane road between Kohima-Dimapur during his visit to Nagaland, the hoho said that it spoke volumes of his love for the Naga people. The Naga Hoho termed it as a remarkable memory for the Nagas which will be fondly remembered in all years to come.
“His sympathy and love for the Nagas was clearly understood when Vajpayee as the Prime Minister in 2003 granted financial aid to Nagaland to waive out the entire deficit and start with zero deficit Budget by granting 1050 crores,” said the Naga Hoho while terming it as a feat which no Prime ministers had ever done for Nagaland in its past 55 years of statehood and in the history of Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
“The Nagas have indeed lost a valued leader who could relate to the Naga problem,” stated the Naga Hoho while praying for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
