Dimapur, May 18: The Naga Hoho has reaffirmed its decision against women taking policy-making roles, specifically the 33% reservation for women.
Instead–and paradoxically–the tribal organization has offered a vague concession: “empowerment of women by creating various opportunities to women by all the stakeholders.”
The Naga Hoho issued a note on Wednesday informing about a consultative meeting with presidents of “Nagaland based Naga Hoho constituents.” The note said that the meeting was held at Hotel Japfu in Kohima town on May 18. During the meeting, a number of resolutions were undertaken.
The note form the organization stated: “The meeting reaffirmed the 4th federal assembly resolution no. 4 of the Naga Hoho held on 24th August 2011 which observed introduction of 33% reservation for women in the Municipal Bodies as premature and would rather advocate for empowerment of women by creating various opportunities to women by all the stakeholders.”
“The meeting endorses the executive council to have a joint sitting with the ENPO in connection with the 33% Women Reservation in municipal bodies for better coordination and understanding.”
