- DIMAPUR — The
office bearers of the Naga Hoho have issued a press communiqué distancing
themselves from a statement made by their President, titled “It’s time to wrap
up Naga peace talk”, published in a local daily recently.
- In the communiqué, the office bearers stated that the
statement contains opinions and assertions on contentious Naga political
issues, some of which amount to imposition upon the negotiating parties.
- “While the Naga Hoho executive meeting agreed on the need
for a unified approach to the Naga political issue, paving the way for a common
draft that incorporates both the signed agreements for a final settlement,
there was no discussion on competencies or the need to issue a public statement
on them at this juncture,” it read.
- They maintained that the statement was issued without any
prior information or notice to any of the core members of the executive and
that it is unfortunate that this is not the first instance of such unilateral
public statements.
- They said that the president has been informally as well as
formally advised to retract the press statement under scrutiny as a personal
opinion and not a collective Naga Hoho statement. However, he has failed to do
so. Therefore, the executives have been compelled to disown the statement as a
personal opinion of the president and not the collective position of the Naga
Hoho.
- Further, they stated that, for all matters regarding this
unsavoury affair, the executives will be subservient to and abide by the
decision handed down by the Naga Hoho Federal Assembly, which will be convened
shortly, and will not engage in any public debate through the press or social
media.
