DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30
The Naga Hoho has expressed its concern over the Governor of Nagaland, P.B. Acharya’s choice to address the gathering at Governor-at-Home in Hindi on the occasion of celebration of 66th Republic Day celebration on January 26 last. In a statement, the Naga Hoho said that while it welcomes the promotion and propagation of Hindi in the state through schools and other institutions, it finds it unreasonable that the Governor should address a distinguished non-Hindi speaking gathering in Hindi, ‘fully knowing that the majority of them could not comprehend a single word of what was spoken.’
On the depiction of a goddess in the Republic Day handout, the Naga Hoho said while it respect and regard all religions, it is astonished on the matter. It is very much out of place that the image was used in a non-religious official function in a Christian dominated state, it stated. “The Nagas are not against Hindus or Hinduism, but objects to this very particular action of the Governor which conveys a wrong controversial message. Being the first citizen of the state, we prefer, the Hon’ble Governor to show certain amount of neutrality and sensitivity to the sentiments of the general Naga public in future for the best interest of the people,” the Naga Hoho added.
