EMN Dimapur, September 15 The Naga Hoho has vehemently condemned what it called the barbaric act of Karbi origin underground cadres in manhandling innocent Rengma women folks and also frisking and misbehaving with them while they were on their way to attend a church service. Their cell phones were looted by these underground cadres, the Media Cell of Naga Hoho said in a release today. “Threatening any citizen for attending a church service in itself destroys the very foundation of secularism and amounts to be condemnable by all citizens cutting across race, colour, region, religion etc,” the release said. Stating that this diabolical act shouldn’t be allowed to go scot free even by the Assam Police, the Hoho demanded immediate arrest of the cadres and befitting punishment to them at the earliest without any delay. “Karbi cadres are further warned not to tease Nagas with our religious sentiments,” it warned. This undesired incidents showing its presence by a handful of cadres and issuing “shoot at sight” and “flush out orders” cannot and will not be tolerated by Nagas, the Hoho said while requesting Karbi elders to guide their people in the right direction. “Displaced Rengmas returning to their ancestral land should rather be considered as a significance of prevailing good times and not further provoke Rengma Nagas by putting up the question of who gave them the guarantee of their safety in their own land?” it stated. “The inefficient Assam Police in booking and bringing the murderer(s) of late Nzankheng Rengma to justice yet again perceives to display the role of the Assam Government in planting divisive policy rule across the borders, allowing the culprits to take advantage and incite hatred amongst the various communities residing at the border areas,” the Hoho said. Pointing out that a little relief and peace had been prevailing between Karbis and Nagas after the intervention and sitting across the table by various civil societies under the aegis of Naga Hoho and the Karbi Anglong collective civil bodies, the release said incidents like this if turned a deaf ear to by all communities, organisations or groups will only disrupt the relationship and peaceful co existence that we as human beings are trying to create.
