Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): The Naga Hoho continues to fluff its lines in the run up to elect its new set up leaders. On Thursday, its vice president issued a statement to the local newspapers containing a call for an emergency presidential council meeting on Nov. 26 to discuss the election of new leaders.
And on Friday, the speaker “on the advice (of) and consultation with the advisor” issued a statement informing that the current Naga Hoho leadership’s tenure ends on Nov. 26. “The new office bearers are supposed to be elected two months ahead of the expiry by constituting a search/nomination committee by the federal assembly.
“However, the due process was not followed owing to various reasons. Since no federal assembly and general session could be held by the present incumbent, I on behalf of the Naga Hoho apologise to the Naga people for all the shortcomings and failures. Though the executive council shall cease to function by 26th November 2018, the organs of the federal assembly shall remain alive till the new team of office bearers is constituted for continuity of the Naga Hoho,” the statement read.
The speaker, it stated, after consultation with the tribe hohos will summon a federal assembly at the earliest to constitute the election commission “and other issues to strengthen the Naga Hoho.” This would ensure “all due processes” are followed, according to the statement.
“Therefore, I call upon all tribe hohos and organisations to kindly bear and understand the fragile situation, give your cooperation and actively participate to have a rejuvenated and vibrant Naga Hoho to serve the Naga people.”
