Ruth Haichem recently received a scooty from Assam government for scoring above 60% in the class 12 examination. The scheme was mainly launched for the girl candidates to encourage and support their education.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It was learnt that the scheme has been entitled to meritorious girl candidates regardless of whichever state they came from to study in the state of Assam.
A picture of Ruth Haichem posing for a photograph on a red scooty supposedly rewarded on her success at higher secondary has been doing round on social media. She is currently studying at St. Xavier College in Jalukie under Peren district.
“I completed my higher secondary in Auxilium Higher Secondary School in Tinsukia, Assam. I am so happy to get a scooty through Assam AHSEC scooty scheme wherein they give a scooty each for all girls who passed Cl.XII with 60% marks. I am more impressed that they give (scooters) to all students in the merit list and they don’t make a difference in the name of state, tribe, religion or any such. It’s a great scheme of motivation for the young girls and greater is the inclusive attitude attached to it. Thank you Assam,” captioned the picture.

However, Eastern Mirror could not authenticate the picture.
Interacting with this newspaper, Wangyat Wangsu, president of Guwahati Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union, has confirmed that those successful girl students irrespective of whichever state appeared exam under the Assam board were awarded two-wheeler after scoring 60% and above in their exam.
According to him, such a gesture amounts to women empowerment.
Appreciating the state government of Assam for rewarding scooty to students, Wangsu said that ‘for so long, women have been subjected to men in the society since time immemorial.’
He added that ‘small positive steps can enhance the thinking of people that women are also encouraged, accepted and embraced by society.’ He further informed how women are provided free conveyance while commuting through the cities in Assam.
