Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): Award-winning Naga filmmaker and animator, Meren Imchen has been selected a member of the steering committee of the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28th this year.
This was informed through a press statement on Tuesday. Imchen is a recipient of the National Film Awards in 2007 for his animated short film
Nokpokliba. “IFFI is the country’s biggest film event that spans nine days and includes attendances by some of the biggest names of film world both nationally and internationally. The event is held in Goa and attracts some of the biggest and most creative film makers from around the globe.
“Meren Imchen, who won the National Award from the President of India for his animation film Nokpokliba for best animation and direction is also a recipient of the Governor’s Award of Nagaland,” the statement informed. The festival is an initiative of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. “The steering committee of the festival determines all aspects of the festival including organisation, conduct, ceremonies, screenings and most importantly promotions and follow ups. Amongst filmmakers and film personalities it is considered as significant recognition to be on the steering committee of India’s biggest film event.
“This is the first time that a personality from Nagaland has been nominated on the committee,” it informed further. There are eleven members in this year’s steering committee – headed by the multiple award-winning filmmaker from Assam, Jahnu Barua.
“Imchen has several other achievements and accolades to his credit as his works have regularly appeared on popular channels like Start Movies, VH1, Pogo and Nickelodeon. He did his MA (Distinction) in 3D Computer Animation, Bournemouth University (NCCA), Bournemouth, in the UK prior to a four-year professional degree in Animation Film Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India,” it was informed.
The statement also shared Imchen’s wish to “extend help and assistance to filmmakers in Nagaland, especially in the field of animation and hopes that his experiences and knowledge gained over the years and at the forthcoming IFFI will contribute towards positives gains for Nagaland and the rest of the region.”
