Kohima, Nov. 11 (EMN): Anga Noudi, a young fashion designer from Nagaland, recently participated in the 7th annual edition of 'North East Festival' held at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) at Janpath in New Delhi from November 8 to the 10th.
The three-day mega festival, dubbed as ‘the coolest and most colourful festival of Delhi’, also included exhibition of handloom and handicraft.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Noudi said she was allotted a stall, which she named ‘Ura Rütso Ki’ (roughly translated as ‘Naga traditional parlour’).
Taking part in one of the biggest festivals for north-eastern states for the first time, Noudi said that her handmade handloom bags with Naga traditional themes were showcased at the venue.
"I used leather and put a modern touch, because leather products last for a very long time," she said.
Noudi informed that she wanted to promote the culture of Nagaland, so she brought varieties of handloom products like ties, bags and jewelleries, which she collected from different Naga artisans.
Additionally, she also put on sale some of her friend's graphic tee shirts and other accessories.
Noudi said that visitors to her stall responded ‘positively as they really liked the products’.
She informed that there were other designers from Nagaland who took part in the festival, and much to her surprise, most of them were friends and acquaintances who were also in the same business.
"It was nice to meet each other, especially knowing that we are all residing in Delhi," she said.
Anga Noudi hails from Nerhema village in Kohima district and runs a home-based business in Delhi. She deals in traditional items and clothing for both men and women in Western and Indian wear. However, she focuses more on the latter, she said.
‘North East Festival’ is an attempt to showcase and create awareness about India's Northeast region, its people and resources.
