Dimapur, June 26 (EMN): Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has reaffirmed its stand on ‘one government, one tax’ as resolved by its public action committee on October 31, 2013, while it also granted liberty to the latter to pursue the matter in safeguarding the public interest
The reaffirmation to this effect was taken during a joint meeting of 19 tribal hoho presidents, Naga women hoho Dimapur, GBs’ Union (sadar), and DUCCF on June 23 in its conference hall. The meeting was called in connection with multiple taxations taking place in and around Dimapur.
During the discussion, it was brought to the notice that various underground factions namely the Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) and groups of individuals have been serving demand notices to business community and even individual operators from their hard earned money.
A NCD press release issued by its general secretary, Thsapongkyu Sangtam, stated that such demands cannot be termed as voluntary but amounts to extortion under the Indian Penal Code.
In the interest of maintaining law and order and providing safety and security to the citizen of Dimapur, NCD has requested the law enforcing agency and district administration to register criminal cases against any such group or individuals making such demands.
