Dimapur, March 28: A newly constructed building to house the Naga Council of Dimapur (NCD) was dedicated by senior pastor of the Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, Rev. S Vitoshe Swu on March 28.
The new building, located at Nyamo Lotha road, was constructed at the cost of INR 2.26 crore. Seven tenants are said to have invested in the building, each contributing to the tune of INR 29.37 lakh, the general secretary of the council Thsapongkyu Sangtam said. He gave a brief report about the building construction during the programme which was conducted in the Naga Council’s conference hall.
The Naga Council new building project was initiated way back in 2006 under the then president Savi Ligeise. A comprehensive project proposal for Naga Council office building was submitted to the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) with the state government standing as a guarantee. The project proposal was however rejected by the HUDCO and so consequently the project remained stalled for years, read-out Sangtam.
The report of the newly constructed building, which was also made available to media persons, mentioned that the project for Naga Council new office building was necessitated taken into consideration the life of the old building nearing expiry and the safety concern.
After the project was rejected in 2006 by HUDCO, it was revived in 2015 under the leadership of T Bangerloba and his executive, who actively reinforced and pursuit the matter to set up the new Naga Council office cum commercial building. The contract for construction of building was awarded to M/S. DP Angami & Son Vide, general counsellor approval dated Oct. 8 2016. Thereafter, a brief building foundational programme was held on October 17, 2016, which was led by the DP Angami.
“It was on August 28, 2015, where a consultative meeting with seven tenants and council executive was held for the proposed new building construction. The meeting resulted in agreeing to let the seven tenants to invest money for construction of the building. Subsequently another round of meeting was held on October, 15, 2015, with the seven tenants, which resulted in finalising the matter and upon the tenants and executive took a firm decision for the construction of new building,” the report maintained.
The building project proposal got the approval of the general counsellor at its meeting held on June 16, 2016. The executive approached the M/S. JS Architect and Associate to prepare architectural drawing and estimate (Detailed Project Report). After several round of meetings, the executive formulated the modality of terms and conditions of construction of new building project.
