DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19: The Naga Council of Dimapur has declared that popular protest and similar events ought to be organized only with “with proper representation and consultation from the Naga Council Office at least 3 days in advance.”
The statement was contained in a press release that was received here from the local organization on Wednesday.
The Naga Council of Dimapur, the Naga Women Hoho of Dimapur and the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union expressed appreciation to what they called “the goodwill assurance” of the government of Nagaland “under the leadership of the Chief Minister Shri TR Zeliang,” the note stated.
Following the assurance, a recent bandh demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the fuel-adulteration racket, was called off.
The three groups said to have met in an emergency meeting held October 18 in Dimapur and ‘resolved with decision to reaffirm and endorse with the standing resolution of the public that was passed on 11th September 2012 and public notification thereof.’
‘As such the arbitrary imposition of lightening bandhs / strikes inflicts disturbances and imbalances in the society. The Three apex bodies make a tough stand that any organizations / hohos / unions / associations’ if any intends to organize democratic form of protests under any legitimate grievances shall do so with proper representation and consultation from the Naga Council office at least 3 days in advance and further need the approval/permission from the district administration and commissioner of police,’ the press release stated.
