Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): A suo moto first information report (FIR) has been filed against the director and proprietor of Naga Blind Children Home, K Yapang Longkumer after reports of alleged physical, mental and sexual abuse of differently-able persons and minors in his care have surfaced.
According to a press release from the department of Social Welfare, it has "revoked and cancelled the registration of the children home to run as CCI under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015."
A case has been filed at Women Police Station, Dimapur; and the accused booked under Pocso Act 2012, it stated. The children's home is located at Ao Khel, Notun Bosti in Dimapur.
"The offence attracts serious penalties under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015, Pocso Act 2012, and RPwD (Rights of Persons with Disabilities) Act 2016," read the statement.
Six boys and six girls were rescued from the home and the case is under trial in ‘Special Court Dimapur’, it added.
