Dimapur, Oct. 17 (EMN): N.F.Railway has accelerated the augmentation of passenger services in the Northeast by increasing 36% of berths in existing coaches, informed in a press note by NF Railway, Maligaon. It further stated that, during April to Oct., 2017 as many as 56 coaches have been added in 28 mail express trains. This has led to the generation of 4078 additional berths.
During 2016-17, as many as 26 coaches have been added in 17 trains leading to the creation of 3004 additional berths. Thus in the first seven months of the current financial year alone there has been an increase of 36% in the volume of additional berths generated in existing services.
Addition of coaches has also been made in a number of passenger trains. Manas Rhino passenger train plying between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati has been provided with 2 additional coaches recently.
Two additional coaches have also been added to each of Rangiya – Murkongselek and Rangapara – Rangiya passenger and one coach has been added to Alipurduar Jn – Guwahati Shiphung passenger, it added.
Temporary augmentation of coaches is also done from time to time to cater to rush arising out of holiday seasons, festivals etc.
During April to October, 2017, N.F.Railway has temporarily augmented 33 coaches in 16 mail express trains, thereby creating 3661 additional seats. During 2016 – 17 financial year, a total of 22 coaches were temporarily augmented in 15 trains creating 3590 additional berths.
