Imphal, July 31 (EMN): Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed the student organisations in Manipur to call off the current agitation regarding reservation of seats at eight Assembly Constituencies for indigenous people of the State. Replying to the question raised by congress MLA RK Imo during the zero hour of the ongoing assembly session on the steps taken up by the Government to check the influx of illegal migrants in the State and the recent agitation by the student organizations, Biren said that the government is taking serious concern on the issue of the illegal migrants and would assess and discuss carefully the issue of illegal migrants in the State. Demanding safeguard of indigenous people of the state, Kangleipak Students Association has been launching various forms of agitation since the last few days.
They are also drafting of a law against non-indigenous people from contesting election in eight different constituencies for first phase i.e Wangkhei, Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Thangmeiband, Sagolband, Sugnu, Bishnupur and Uripok and to reserve it for the indigenous people.
