Dimapur, July 12: The Naga Cultural and Literature(Central), a Zingkaling Khamti based Naga organisation in Myanmar has sought the participation from ‘east’ and ‘west’ populations of the Naga plethora in the activities of the organisation as a literary platform for the Myanmar Naga.
A press release offering insights into the organization’s envisaged objectives, activities and organizational mission statement was received here on Tuesday.
The “Naga Cultural and Literature (Central)” was formed in 1990 at Zingkaling Khamti town, the press release stated.
“The Naga Cultural and Literature (Central) have been working for the betterment of the Nagas in easter region (sic). It is not only representing the Nagas in eastern region but also effectively contributing in developments work in the sectors of health, education and road connectivity,” the group explained. The officer bearers serve for five years. For the 2016-2021tenure, a general convention was summoned in March this year.
The note explained that the membership is composed of “central patrons”, and five “central executive members.” Also, the Naga Cultural and Literature is said to be composed of six committees such as a literature committee, a “customary judiciary committee,” a women affairs committee, a students and youth committee, a finance committee, and an auditing committee.
The group said it was a non-political organization “but it will continue to contribute and engage more actively in the Naga national affairs in eastern Naga region.” As part of that vision, the group has “facilitated various talks to reach ceasefire agreement between NSCN-K and Myanmar government at regional level on 9th April, 2012,” the press release stated.
Also, the group has informed to have formed a “working committee with linguistic experts to promote Nagamese as common language.”
The note further added that the organisation is “collaborating with Council of Naga Affairs (CNA), Naga Self-Administrative Zone Government, Civil Society Organizations and general public to formulate the common position of Nagas for reclaiming the rights of Nagas in Eastern Naga Region in the upcoming NLD led National Peace Conference / Panglong Conference. “
Another event that the organization said to be preparing was a “Naga New Year Festival” scheduled to be held on January 15, 2017 with the support of the Naga self-administrative zone government.
“When sharing brief accounts of our struggles and position, the Naga people residing in East and West are cordially invited to participate in the upcoming Naga Year Festival to show solidarities and promoting our cultural,” the press release stated.
