Kohima, Aug. 27 (EMN):
A host of Naga artists came together in support of people with disabilities with a charity event at Jotsoma village, near Kohima town.
In collaboration with Tabitha Enabling Academy, the Metanioa Club organized a charity event for people with disabilities, on Monday Aug. 27 at the RCEMPA, at Jotsoma village. The musicians included Alobo Naga and The Band, besides the Rengma Baptist Church Choir.
The chief guest of the event was Dr. Atha Vizol, commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. The officer told the gathering that their prayer and encouragement will make an impact on the section of the community. He said that people with disabilities are suffering and deprived of their basic rights due to lack of awareness and ignorance on the part of the public.
“We Nagas have a habit of not encouraging persons with disabilities or their parents not to take or make them participate in social events and public functions; and it is very wrong. They have every right like all normal beings to enjoy and participate”, Dr. Vizol said.
He told the gathering that there are 29,613 registered disabled persons in Nagaland and that creating awareness on their plight is needed to look after their welfare and rights.
Dr. Vizol also sought for better co-ordination between the parents of persons with disabilities, teachers, church, and NGOs to tackle these issues.
Sentilo Kath, a core team member of Metanioa Club, expressed their gratitude to Kenilo Apon, secretary of Transport; Agwasen Kent, executive engineer PHED, Kohima; Shengato Jemu, curator of Art and Culture; and Pollem Tep, addl. director of School Education for their time and overall assistance. He also expressed his gratitude to all the participants, parents, well wishers and those responsible for making the event a success.
Students of Tabitha Enabling Academy presented special songs and dances at the event.
