Dimapur, Sep. 22: Of late murals have come to represent a form of expression among the Naga youth across the state. In many places, the youth have used this form of art to transform urban eyesore into walls that tells stories and expresses culture.
Similarly, the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) have painted a 190-metre long wall (in breadth) located near the West Police Station in Dimapur. This was part of the ASUD’s drive to commemorate its golden jubilee. ‘The project is being shared in 50:50 ratio between the ASUD and DMC’, said an official of ASUD to Eastern Mirror.
The project started in July by tearing down the wall cover ‘which was weak and in poor quality’ followed by repairing of the wall by ASUD volunteers. The paintjob is expected to finish in a month, maintained the ASUD official.
The murals are being painted by five artists from the Ao community which will have the ‘Naga traditional shawls, Naga culture depicted and awareness on environment,’ informed the student official.
Also, he mentioned that the ASUD has adopted the area for maintenance in the future.
