DIMAPUR/WOKHA — District athletics associations in multiple districts of Nagaland commemorated World Kids Athletics Day on Thursday in collaboration with the Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA).
The day was celebrated simultaneously in Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Peren, Noklak, and Wokha. Around 700 participants took part in the celebrations.
The celebrations aimed to encourage children to participate in sports and physical activities from an early age while promoting the values of fitness, teamwork, discipline, and healthy living through athletics.

According to an update from the NAA, various fun-based and age-appropriate athletics activities and competitions were organised for children under different age categories.
The event is one of the official calendar programmes under the Athletics Federation of India and forms part of the nationwide initiative to promote athletics among children and strengthen grassroots sports development.
As part of the statewide observance, the Wokha Athletics Association observed the day at the Public Ground in Wokha.
Altogether, 64 young athletes representing various schools took part in the event. Competitions were conducted across three age categories: Under-8 (50m race), Under-10 (standing long jump), and Under-12 (javelin throw).
Meanwhile, the Mokokchung Athletics Association postponed its scheduled programme due to poor weather conditions. The association informed that the event would be conducted at a later date, subject to favourable weather conditions.
