KOHIMA — In an unfortunate turn of event, a mudslide caused by heavy monsoon downpours destroyed a Maruti Esteem car and partially damaged another Maruti Alto.
The incident occurred in Officers’ Hill Colony in Kohima on Friday early morning.
According to the residents, continuous heavy rain over the past few days triggered the mudslide. The loose soil from above the road fell, resulting in the destruction. No fatalities or injuries were reported as the incident took place in the early hours.
It is worth mentioning that the area lacks proper retaining wall with only a couple of feet of guards constructed a few years ago during drainage construction. The remaining tall surface above was left as an exposed earth surface.
Following the incident, an excavator was deployed to clear the debris and retrieve the vehicles.
