The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) said it is alarming to learn that government school students attend classes without inadequate textbooks in Mokokchung. According to MTLT, there are hundreds of students from different family backgrounds studying in the different government schools. As such, the students attending their classes without adequate textbooks are teetering on the brink as the first terminal examination is barely a month away. The MTLT wondered how the students would fare in their examination given this dire inadequacy. The MTLT said it is aware of the desperate measures adopted by the different schools in xeroxing the previous year’s textbooks in order to make up thisinadequacy. “But, the MTLT questions the DoSE how far such temporal arrangements will sustain. The MTLT questions what has happened to the textbooks keeping in mind thatsome classes have received their textbooks whereas some have not. Are the textbooks under the SSA scheme meant only for some classes?,” it asked. The MTLT is concerned about the free uniform distributionscheme which ironically has no uniformity. The MTLT said it learned that there are many families finding it hard to afford the stitching cost, thoughtheuniform cloth came for free.Hence, it’s a burden rather than a privilege to wear the uniforms.
The MTLT is also deeply shocked to learn that schools have not been receiving ‘school maintenance and repairing’ and ‘ school grant.’The MTLT demands that the due grants be released in a timely manner for the smooth functioning of the schools. In this regard, the MTLT strongly welcomed the Governor of Nagaland demanding a ‘ probe into the scams in Education department.’The MTLT reiterates the ACAUT’s demand for CBI probe into the whole issue. The MTLT believes that there are uncountable discrepancies in the EducationDepartment which need to be rectified at the earliest. TheMTLT with its motto “Always Vigilant”will keep a check on issues that concern the people.
