MTLT distributes relief materials to the needy

Mokokchung, April 2 (EMN):
The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), a youth organisation of Mokokchung town, on April 2 distributed essential food items to the needy in Mokokchung town covering all the 18 wards under Mokokchung municipality.

The distribution of essential food items dubbed as ‘Covid-19 relief drive’ was formally launched at Town Square (Police Point) in the presence ADC Mokokchung and MMC administrator W Manpai Phome along with officials from AKM, Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and MCCI. 

The essential commodities distributed for free included rice, lentils and flour which was distributed to about 1800 needy households in the town. The essential supplies were distributed to genuine needy people by the respective youth organisations and authorities of the 18 wards.

MTLT undertook the distribution of the essential commodities after obtaining due permission from the district administration and by adopting social distancing protocols and all standard operating procedures.

Deputy commissioner, Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir has appreciated MTLT for the humanitarian act and stated that the district administration was overstressed in the battle against Covid-19 and that such noble initiatives were welcome.

MTLT president Imkummeren Jamir said today’s distribution was the first phase of relief drive the organisation has initiated, adding that the second phase of essential food items distribution to the needy people in the town is on the pipeline.

After receiving suggestions from many citizens in the wake of the 21-day national lockdown, MTLT initiated a fundraising campaign and raised a substantial amount. The list of donors from far and near who contributed towards the cause would be published in due course of time. In this regard, MTLT has conveyed gratitude to all the well-wishers for their contributions.

A total of nine metric tons of rice, 1.08 metric ton of lentils and 1.08 metric ton of flour were given away today.

MTBA serves free meals

Mokokchung, April 2 (EMN):
The Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) offered free meal to 71 people under its charity project dubbed as ‘Covid-19 community kitchen’ at the church premises which began on Thursday.

Rev. Ponen Longchar, pastor of MTBA, said that the Covid-19 community kitchen would continue till the Covid-19 pandemic crisis is over. The meal is served for the stranded labourers, migrant workers, daily wage earners and those people in need of food at MTBA church premises from 11 am to 1 pm every day.

The Covid-19 community kitchen is being coordinated with the district administration and strict Covid-19 protocols are followed while serving the meal.

Most of the beneficiaries included sweepers, cobblers, barbers etc.

“We’re expecting more tomorrow onwards. This kitchen will be open ed everyday from 11 am to 1 pm for those who are unable to afford one square meal a day during this lockdown,” MTBA wrote on its Facebook page.
