MT Youth Club New Police Reserve, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Ukhrul and Barak FC Peren marked win today to book berth for the quarter finals of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy being held under the theme ‘Goal for Peace’ at Kohima Local Ground.
Playing the first match, MT Youth Club New Police Reserve came from behind to beat Naga Students' Union Guwahati by 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out after both teams ended in 1-1 draw during the stipulated time.
It was Naga Students’ Union Guwahati finding the first lead through Apeng Panmei in 16th minute of play. They managed to maintain it until Kato Ayemi found the equalizer for MT Youth Club in the injury added time of the first half, after which neither sides made any progress in the second half.The tie-breaker favour home team as they managed four conversions while visitors made only two.
In the second match too, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong came from behind to defeat Chedema Village Students Union by 3-1.
The first half did not see any decisive move from either sides and it ended in a disappointing goalless draw . However, nine minutes into the second half it was Kobou Kiwe giving the home team the lead score. However, Tangkhul SU responded with equalizer within three minutes through Khangatar Tungshangnao. They took the lead in 50th minute through Patrick Pamei - 1 goal while Pamreishang Horam sealed the score board with the second lead in the 59th minute.
Barak FC Peren defeated Meriema Students' Union by 2-1 in a close-shave and quick scoring last match of the day.
Ratobe netted the first lead for Barak in 10th minute but it couldn’t last long as Neiphrezolie Üsou responded with the equalizer within the next minute. However, Barak also managed to once again take the lead through Nampibo Zeliang within 12th minute. Thereafter, the scoreboard remained unmoved till the stipulated time of the game.
