Imphal, Aug. 2 (EMN): The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has agreed to establish National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Manipur for north-eastern region upon the assurance of the Manipur Government to support in setting up of the institute, official source said.
The setting up of NSTI was approved during the review meeting of the skill development and vocational education initiatives in north-eastern region, chaired by minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendranath Pandey, DIPR Manipur report said.
The review meeting was held on July 27 at Guwahati in Assam.
Meanwhile, Manipur Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam on Friday called on the Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at his office chamber, New Delhi and briefed the educational scenario of the state.
During the interaction, the minister said that with the establishment of the institution, shortage of facility for training the trainers will be solved.
He also mentioned on the need for appointment of a regular vice-chancellor for Manipur University besides urging for good infrastructure for the educational institutions especially for technical and higher education.
As part of infrastructural development required for the education of the state, the minister also appealed for strengthening the teachers training institutions.
Minister also stated that the discussion initiated for setting up of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) with the HRD Minister was a success and a proposal will be soon put up,the release added.
The IISER is an Autonomous Institutions under Ministry of HRD, Government of India devoted to science research and education created with a vision encompassing creation of research centres of the highest caliber where teaching and education in the basic sciences are integrated with state-of-the-art research. Presently there are seven such institutions at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune,Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati.
