Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): Even as the government had said that it would try to achieve 100% Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) in the state, the response isn’t encouraging with Phek and Dimapur districts recording a paltry 17% and 18% success respectively in six days (Oct. 3 to Oct. 8), which is the lowest in the state, according to the data issued by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Medical Officer, Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) Dr. G.R. Rio.
Mokokchung recorded 55% achievement in MR vaccination six days after the campaign began, while Longleng district achieved 51% success, according to the data obtained by
Eastern Mirror from Longleng DPO (RCH/UIP) Dr. Imnameren Phom on Friday.
Dr. Phom told
Eastern Mirror that the district could achieve 50 percent because of the intense awareness campaign disseminated to the public with the stakeholders especially the village councils and the use of Church platform to create awareness.
He said that the Longleng medical department made sure that a doctor was present to monitor vaccination so that the parents do not hesitate to get their children vaccinated. He added that the presence of doctors and Chief Medical Officer during the programme helped clear fear psychosis caused by fake news and rumours that have been doing the rounds on social media.
“The programme in the district has been intensified and it is already showing results at the ground level with the district vaccinating more than the target on Oct. 12 due to the sudden influx of school children who missed the outreach sessions,” maintained Dr. Phom.
“The department has a vigorous programme in place, and what we are trying is to reach out to the interior parts of the district so that maximum coverage can be achieved” said Dr. Phom.
The DPO (RCH/UIP) has appealed to the presidents of 11 wards under Longleng town at a meeting at DC conference hall to mobilise their respective wards as much as possible for MR vaccination so that there would be no measles outbreak in the district in future.
Longleng CMO Dr Kongyan Phom in his keynote address presented a brief report of the campaign covered in the district so far.
The meeting was chaired by Longleng EAC Rohbi Sangtam and graced by dignitaries including Dr Lirenthung Khuvung MO (RBSK) and District Media Officer Roseline Phom.
