Kohima, Sep. 4 (EMN): Merhülietsa Sunrisers defeated the defending champions Merhülietsa Football Club 2-0 in the first match of the Morning Champions Cup 2017 at Seikhazou ground, Kohima on Monday.
During the match, Chuba opened the scoring for Merhülietsa Sunrisers in the 6th minute through an assist from Aye and Chuba setup Asat to score the second goal in the 46th minute. Merhülietsa FC made no comeback as MRH Sunrisers held on for the win till the end of the final whistle.
Earlier, a short programme was held where the general secretary of Morning Football Association (MFA) Chiset Zeme welcomed the 12 participating teams of the tournament and reiterated on the motto of MFA "Health and Friendship" through football.
The defending champions of MCC 2016, Merhülietsa Football Club then handed over the MCC trophy to vice president of MFA Along Kichu.
