Nagaland MP Supongmeren Jamir calls for verification of claims that a firearm licence linked to Guwahati shooting was issued by Nagaland

KOHIMA — Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday said the allegation regarding the firearm licence in the fatal shooting incident in Guwahati, Assam, needs to be verified.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had claimed that the licence for the firearm recovered allegedly from the crime scene, where five persons were killed on October 26, was issued by Nagaland government.
Reacting to Sarma’s comment, Jamir said whether the gun was issued by the Nagaland government needed to be verified.

“Until and unless it is authenticated, chief minister (of Assam) is not supposed to blame the counterpart state government,” he said.
On whether Nagaland government should respond to the allegation, Jamir said the state government should respond and verify the documents through appropriate channels.
On October 26, five people were killed and one other was injured in a shooting incident at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati. Police have since arrested the main accused, Ghanakanta Gogoi, who was in possession of a .32-bore pistol.
